Framework Laptop 13 Pro press reviews and previewing a 192GB Framework Desktop
Reviews of Framework Laptop 13 Pro are now live, with shipments of Batch 1 pre-orders starting this week. Our goal with this generation was to build the “MacBook Pro for Linux users”, a robust, refined, high-performance notebook with great battery life that deeply respects your rights through software choice, longevity, and upgradeability. We’ve also started shipping the first Batches of Intel Core Ultra Series 3 Mainboards, the new Touchscreen display, and some of the new configurations of Framework Laptop 16.
Personal computing and consumer electronics overall is in a tough place for the foreseeable future due to memory and silicon costs and availability. We have access to supply to continue production, but we faced major cost increases recently from our suppliers. Unfortunately, we expect this trend to continue over the next year. This makes upgradeability and product longevity more important than ever. You can pick up the memory you can get your hands on today with the ability to upgrade in the future when you need to. If you’re planning out a computer purchase, we recommend making it sooner than later, and to choose configurations based on availability of the memory and storage capacity you need. DDR5 pricing is currently lower than LPCAMM2, so if you need a lot of memory, we have the Ryzen AI 300 Series version of Framework Laptop 13 Pro available as well. We also have the non-Pro Framework Laptop 13 with Ryzen AI 300 Series in stock and refurbished versions of several configurations in the Framework Outlet as other paths to save money.
Last week, we teased an upcoming 192GB configuration of Framework Desktop at AMD’s Advancing AI event that can run very large models like the 284B parameter DeepSeek-V4-Flash in a single box. If AI is consuming all the silicon in the world, we want to make sure that you can still own your AI compute and run open weights models fully under your control. In addition to bringing in the new Ryzen AI Max PRO 495+ processor, it uses slightly faster 8533 MT/s memory, has an open-end x4 PCIe slot to make it easier to plug in 50Gbps NICs for clustering, and optionally comes with Linux pre-loaded. We’ll have more to share on this later this year, and you can sign up to get notified in the meantime. Here too, we expect memory costs to continue to increase, and we recommend picking up a 64GB or 128GB configuration now if the models you want to run can fit in those capacities.
